What Qube is

A small cube, 48 millimetres across, with a chip inside. You tap your iPhone on it and the apps on your list go quiet. You tap again and they come back. That is the whole product.

Fewer settings. More evening.

To keep the phone out of the way, you would stack several things, each doing a part of the job. One tap on the cube covers what they were each trying to do:

Screen Time limits

App timers

Deleting the apps

A lockbox for the phone

A second, simpler phone

Why an object, and not another app

An app can be closed by the same thumb it is trying to stop. Research on self-control finds that changing the situation works better than resisting it each time, because resisting costs effort every single time. The cube moves the way out into the room: to open your apps again, you walk to where you left it.

How Qube compares

Screen Time refers to the App Limits built into iOS.

Qube

Screen Time limits

A drawer

Only the apps on your list

Calls and maps still work

The way back is a physical step

No “Ignore limit” button

WHAT WE MEASURE

Qube is not only felt. Its effects can be measured.

The app keeps the count: how long the Qube stayed on, evening after evening. What you get back stops being an impression.

X out of 10 people in the survey say the evening came back.

X people, X days. Figures to be filled once the survey is in.

Questions we get

You pick what goes quiet

You choose your apps once, in the app. The cube applies that choice, every time.

The cube never needs charging

There is no battery inside. It takes what it needs from the phone at the moment you tap, and nothing else. Leave it on a shelf for a year and it still works.

It works with no connection

The lock lives on the iPhone. No network and no account are needed to tap in.

There is a way out

Five emergency unlocks, told to you on day one. They do not refill, which is what makes them mean something.

The app comes with the cube

It is free for anyone who owns a Qube. You sign in with the email from your order.

iPhone models that work

iOS 17 and up, so iPhone XS, XR and newer. An Android version is in development.
