What is Qube

Qube is an innovative device that helps you get more out of your day by keeping the apps you pick quiet, whenever you decide. Every Qube is set to one person: your apps, your hours, your rules.

Who it is for

Men, women and anyone who takes their time and attention seriously, and has seen how much of both a phone can take. People who want their evenings, their mornings and the room they are in to get their full attention.

Benefits

Daily support for:

  • Focus — 23 minutes to get back on task after one interruption (UC Irvine, 2008)
  • Time — about an hour a day back in four weeks (American Economic Review, 2020)
  • Sleep — melatonin cut by more than half after a screen before bed (PNAS, 2015)
  • Your people — a phone on the table lowers how close a conversation feels (Przybylski and Weinstein, 2013)

Qube members report the same, and they feel it in the first week.

What you get back.

Better focus

23 minutes to get back on task, after one interruption.

The apps you picked are not there to open, so the thing in front of you keeps going.

Hours back

About an hour a day, in a trial of 2,844 people.

Qube turns that pause into one gesture, on the evenings you choose.

Better sleep

A screen before bed pushes the body clock back by about an hour and a half.

Tap in before bed and the phone has nothing left to show.

Fewer reflex checks

The average phone is checked 96 times a day.

The hand still reaches. It finds nothing to open, and goes back to what it was doing.

Time with your people

A phone on the table makes a conversation feel less close.

On the cube, the phone is out of the conversation.

Quieter mornings

The first hour of the day, without the feed.

Set your hours once, and the morning starts before the feed does.

How the Qube works

Step 01

Pick what goes quiet

Once, in the app. The apps on your list are the ones the cube puts away.

Step 02

Tap in

The top of your iPhone on the cube. That is the whole gesture, and the timer starts.

Step 03

Tap out when you are done

One more tap brings everything back. Nothing to undo, nothing to remember.

One tap, big changes

The Qube takes nothing from you. It gives back what the phone was taking without asking.

What the studies found

Attention
Even face down on the desk, the phone takes part of your attention. In another room, memory and reasoning test better. Ward et al., 2017

Concentration
After one interruption, it takes about 23 minutes to get back into what you were doing. Mark et al., 2008

Hours back
Four weeks off one social app gave people about an hour a day. Their usage stayed lower afterwards. Allcott et al., 2020

Sleep
A screen before bed pushes the body clock back by about an hour and a half, and the next morning is slower. Chang et al., 2015

Mood
Social media held to half an hour a day, for three weeks: less loneliness, fewer depressive symptoms. Hunt et al., 2018

Your people
A phone lying on the table, untouched, lowers the closeness and trust people feel in a conversation. Przybylski & Weinstein, 2013

Why an object
Removing the option works better than resisting it each time. The cube is the only way back. Duckworth et al., 2016

None of these studies were run on Qube. They measure what happens when the phone is out of reach.

Twenty-three minutes to get back in

One interruption does not cost ten seconds. In a study of real office work, people took about twenty-three minutes to return to the task they had left — and most of what interrupted them came from the phone within reach.

    Why this matters

Qube takes the interruption out at the source. The apps you picked are not there to open, so the morning runs to the end of the thing you started.

    Concentration

A morning of work that actually moves. One thing, all the way through.

    About an hour a day

In the largest trial of its kind, 2,844 people spent four weeks without one social app. They got back about an hour a day, and their use stayed lower after the study ended.

    Why this matters

Qube turns that pause into one gesture you choose: a tap when the evening starts, a tap when you are done with it.

    Hours back

The minutes you never see go by. They come back as whole evenings.

The phone on the table changes the table

A phone lying there, untouched, is enough to lower how close a conversation feels. It was measured on strangers and on close friends alike: the presence alone does it.

    Why this matters

On the cube, the phone is out of the conversation. Not face down on the table — somewhere else entirely.

    Your people

Dinners with friends, calls with family. They get all of you.

    Less noise going in

Reading on a screen before bed suppressed melatonin by more than half and pushed the body clock back by about an hour and a half. It also took longer to fall asleep.

    Why this matters

Tap in before bed and the phone has nothing left to show. What is left is the room, and a head that empties on its own.

    A clear head

More of you in your body. A run that's a run. Sleep that comes on time.

Questions we get

How is Qube different from Apple Screen Time?

Screen Time is easy to skip. The switch that lifts it sits in the same phone, two taps away, in the exact moment you want it lifted. Qube puts a physical distance between you and that switch: the cube waits on a table in another room, and the apps you picked stay out of reach until you walk over and tap it.

What happens if I lose my Qube?

It happens, and nothing stays locked. The app holds five emergency end-session unlocks: one tap ends the session and every app is fully accessible again.

Can’t I just delete the app and work around it?

With Full focus on, you cannot. The iPhone refuses to delete the app, and refuses to change the Qube’s settings, for as long as a session is running.

Is my phone compatible with Qube?

Qube works with every iPhone from the XS onwards.

Is it available for Android?

Not yet. An Android version is in development, and the number of people asking for it decides how fast it ships. Send us an email.
